About Therapy with Me

Here is where change is possible.

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist dedicated to helping people create meaningful change in their lives and relationships. My practice is built on the belief that therapy should feel like a genuine human connection – a place where you’re deeply understood, respected, and supported as you grow.

If you’ve been carrying more than your share for a while, you probably know how exhausting it can be to keep it all together – to function, show up for others, and keep going even when you feel powerless to change.

You may wonder if things can truly change, or if you’ll always feel this way.

Nothing changes if nothing changes, and therapy is where the experience of change starts to shift. It’s a space where you don’t have to hold it all together. In this space, your thoughts, feelings, and experiences can finally be heard and understood.

Therapy helps you gain a new perspective.

Most people come to therapy not because they’ve failed, but because they’ve outgrown old ways of coping. You may want to understand why you react the way you do, how to communicate without conflict, or how to find peace with what has been lost.

In our work together, we’ll slow things down so you can begin to see patterns clearly – not as flaws but as old strategies that once helped you survive. From there, we’ll build new ways of relating: to yourself, your partner, and life as it is now.

You’ll begin to notice increased calmness in your body, more space between your thoughts, and more moments of connection that feel real and grounded.

That’s what healing looks like – not perfection, but possibility.

My approach is collaborative.

Together, we will explore your experiences, patterns, and emotions to uncover the most effective and safe way to move toward greater clarity and fulfillment.

In therapy, I draw from evidence-based methods, including the Gottman Method for couples therapy and contemporary grief and relationship-based therapies. However, our work will be tailored to fit you as an individual.

For assessment of neurocognitive conditions, I use therapeutic approaches, such as ADHD and learning disabilities, rooted in science, utilizing both subjective and objective measures. I’m not one for labels, but I am a stickler for diagnostics.

What can you expect when working with me?

You can expect our sessions to feel thoughtful, compassionate, and focused. Whether you’re navigating loss, relationship challenges, or personal growth, the goal is to help you reconnect with your inner resources and move forward with purpose.

People often tell me they appreciate my calm, grounded presence and the sense of safety they feel in our work together. Therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about understanding you, and helping you see possibilities you might not have noticed before. We’ll move at a pace that feels right, focusing on what matters most to you.

My office is a very relaxed and informal environment. I have a turntable, and we play a lot of music during the day. Vinyl is just better. Often, people tell me their favorite album, and I buy it so we can play it while they are here.

There is also a chance that you will meet Captain Charlie, who is my 85-pound big ball of puppy sweetness. He might lick your face off.

I believe that every person already carries the capacity for healing. My role is to help you rediscover it. You don’t have to know exactly where to begin. You have to be ready for something different – and I’ll meet you there.

About Trey Ishee, Psy.D.

People are fascinating.

I’ve spent my career fascinated by how people grow through difficulty and find meaning, resilience, and connection even in life’s hardest seasons.

That fascination led me to seek the education and training to help people find ways to face life’s many challenges. From an educational standpoint, I hold a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an M.S. and Psy.D. in Psychology from Pacific University.

Additionally, I completed postdoctoral training at Atrium Behavioral Health and received a fellowship from Broughton Hospital.

I hold certification in the use of the Gottman Method for Marriage Therapy and am a certified Grief Counselor.

Outside the office…

I value time with loved ones, quiet reflection, and learning about the many ways people make sense of their world.

Fitness and outdoor activities are a huge part of my life.

You don’t have to know exactly where to begin.

You have to be ready for something different – and I’ll meet you there.
